Tonight's Special: Purple Flannel + Gray Shorts + Purple Boots

Checkin' out some local flavor tonight at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, CA. Apparently my hubby and his bro are a teeny tiny bit jealous that I get to go see Two Gallants this fine eve, and they don't. Ha. Sorry boys, but one of my besties, Brigid, got me my ticket to the sold out show. A big thank you to the OG firecrotch.

Update: Great intense show! It was like watching Doogie Howser M.D. and Animal from the Muppets get together and make some beautiful music. Thank you two Gallants. 

Opening band, Pancho San was alright in that indie movie cool type of way. But it was the second opening band Kacey Johansing, that had me mesmerized. As my friend so succintly put it, I was musically stoned.

As a thank you present to our dinner guests, I put together homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies in jars to seal the deal of bestest hostest in the whole widest worldest award. Not only do these cookies guarantee repeat dinner guests, people will be begging for an invitation to the next soiree. Well lucky you, I'm in a sharing mood today so I present to you the too good to be true recipe. Boo ya!


Yields 3 1/2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

• 1 cup salted butter, softened
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 3 cups quick-cooking oats
• 1 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Mix in the quick oats and chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
3. Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Reduce, reuse, recyle: cleaned out candle jars.

The Housewife Apron.

Recently, my friend Bernadette (thank you so much Berna!) invited me to join her Etsy Circle of Friends. Amongst her faves she listed Boojiboo, a store featuring vintage inspired aprons. I've been looking for a couple years now and thank goodness, this is clearly THE store to go to. I swear every single apron is cuteness to the max! You really can't go wrong with any one of them. 

As a fun little game, I decided to ask my amazing musician husband, Mikie Lee Prasad, to pick out an apron he'd think I'd like and buy it for me as a surprise. Okay, so maybe it isn't that much of a surprise when I ask him for a surprise, but hey, at least the print / style he choose wowed me! ;) 

This past week the package arrived at our home before he was back from work and YAY! I loved what he picked out. A black and white polka dot delight with pink trimmings. 

From the patterns of cloth, to the cut and finish, I feel like an half Asian Betty Draper whenever I put this over any outfit. Some of you girls will probably hate me for saying this, but I don't care - these adorable aprons make me wanna cook, clean and look hot for said hubby. Bring on the dishes! Bring on the laundry! Bring on the dirty toilets! Okay so maaaaaaaybeeee I'm exaggerating for effect. Obviously that was said in state of overjoyed excitement. How's about bring on the dinner party? Ah, yes, that's much better. That's what I really meant to say. ;)

Today's Special: Striped Top + Pleated Gray Skirt

For the most part, I tend to go matchy matchy with my outfits. If I'm rockin blue and / or gray - I generally stick to black shoes and silver jewelry. Booooorrrrriiiiinnnngg - I know, I know. So this time I thought to myself, what can I do to funk up my look a little. Something out of my typical color palette ... AHA! Let's do the opposite - brown wedges and a large gold chunky chain. Wait a second - let's add one more pop of color - a multi-strand piece of jewelry featuring a metallic teal-ish flower. For my hair, I decided to leave it as is when I first tied it back to wash my hair this morning (Lazy? Yes. Cute? Yes! Clearly a winning combo in my book). And last but not least, a little pink glitter liner just because I can.

French Braided Hair Wreath.

Now that my hair is nice and long I've been having a lot of fun with different styles. If you're hair is styled in any way at all, it often seems like you've put thought in taking care of your appearance. Five minutes tops is all you need for this French braided hair wreath. The quick and easy 'do is ideal for lazy girls like me!

Start with a side french braid...

...continuing the braid around your head...

and finish off by securing the ends with bobby pins.

Don't worry about wispy pieces hanging out - imperfections add character. At least that's what my dad always says, and gosh darn it, I believe him! ;)

No matter what you wear, this 'do will dress up your whole look!

Have you heard of that hair trend, Ombre? Yeah, me neither until all the different salons I've been to lately keep asking me where I got my hair ombred. Wha??? What the hell is Ombrification? (Okay, that word I made up, but sounds cool, no?)

Ombre originated with girls growing their hair out of their current color. Basically dark roots with lighter ends. Um, yeah of course I totally planned this look two years when I dyed my hair last. I'm a long-term planner - duh! 

For now I've got no choice but to pretend that I'm cool and trendy.

Everyday Juicy Red Lips.

Ever since I was a little girl, my mom always taught me to be ready to face the day - meaning, make sure you always look your best 'cuz you never know where the day will take ya. Well I figured out that just a touch of red on the lips and I feel ready to take anything on 'til the break of dawn!
